I am a visual storyteller.
art and writing as healers + truth tellers
The power of art to inspire and connect us to one another are the foundational principles of my work.
Abstract art speaks a universal language which allows me to release personal and intimate portraiture. Each painting illustrates a story within me, fleeting or otherwise, a tale that begs to be unveiled and heard.
I invite you to observe yourself in my art, whether it be in a nervous glance back, the anxious twist of a foot, or in the riotous hues and spontaneous design of the non-representational.
coming in fall 2026!
But honestly, what this book is really about is exercising choice as a means to self-empowerment and a profound understanding of yourself. Whether it is a choice of writing prompt, which art medium you employ, or the choice to read the book, but not make a visual journal, From Surviving to Thriving is meant to burgeon the ways you think about yourself. The visual journal is simply the catalyst.
Giclée prints of all the art featured in the book are available for purchase.
from surviving to thriving
a how-to visual journal workbook for self-exploration, healing, and pure enjoyment
From Surviving to Thriving: A How-To Visual Journal Workbook for Self-Exploration, Healing and Pure Enjoyment is a self-development book with a creative twist.
In the early chapters of the book Kathi Moreta provides the reader with a variety of writing prompt style options followed by several suggestions for art techniques to combine their writing and art into a visual journal. She does this with irony, humor and honest memoir.
Throughout the book are accompanying samples of her art and writing meant to inspire the reader to make their own personalized visual journal pages, to record their own life experiences, and make tangible their own ideas, insights, torment, joy and all the feelings that come and go for all of us every day.
about kathi moreta
I am an artist. Deep breath, there I said it.
I am evidence of the power of creativity to heal.
I facilitate visual journal workshops for The Thriving Initiative at UCSB and the Santa Barbara City College where I demonstrate how to merge art and writing into a self-care resource.
I had a life and death experience that profoundly changed the way I view the world.
I live to feel connected to others at the heart.
I am curious.
I am an introvert.
I am nervous to live out my life in the way that I have dreamed, but I am doing it anyway.
Sometimes I wonder what might happen if I wholly committed to being myself first, before other responsibilities, before other relationships, before anything or anyone. The thought actually scares me.
